  1. I think Iago is a crazy, evil man because of the way he got Roberto to tell Brabantio about his daughter and Othello.

  2. Iago seems like an ordinary annoyed person at the VERY beginning, but as he begins to trick Roberto into telling about Othello, it becomes more clear that he is a bad person.
I agree with ryan because when he convinced Roberto to tell Brabantio about Othello and his daughter, it showed that he was evil.

  3. Elizabeth Kay- My first impression of Iago is that he loves to make trouble, but is a bit of a coward because he leaves just as the people he's affected get angry. I predict that Iago will continue with his antics throughout the book but will receive his just deserts when the characters catch on to his behavior at the end. I got my opinion of Iago from these two quotes: "Call up her father, rouse him. Make after him, poison his delight, proclaim him in the streets. Incense her kinsmen."-Iago, and "Farewell; for I must leave you."-Iago

  4. I think that Iago is however smart, also very conceded and stuck up. He seems so far to be very driven to get whatever he wants no matter what the consequence. This will most definitely add up to trouble later in the book, but maybe eventually Iago will get in trouble too. He either has no regard for other human emotions or is blinded by his jealousy.

  5. Maddy Scarlett- I think that Iago is an insecure person because he is afraid to face the father himself and pretends to be friends with Othello, even though he hates him.

  6. I also agree with David because Iago deceives Roberto and Brabantio at the same time while also getting both Othello and Desmondia in trouble.

  7. Maeghan Suzik- I agree with Elizabeth because in my opinion, Iago is a cowardly instigator. In scene one he influences and uses Roderigo to stir up trouble with Brabantio. Leaving right as Brabantio begins to get angry shows how he is not who he seems to be. Iago's outside figure does not match what he is on the inside. As an example to my opinion Iago says "For draws to peck at: I am not what I am." (pg 8)

  8. After reading Act 1 Scene 1 of Othello, my first impressions of Iago are quite grim. He is very smart and intellectual, but uses that knowledge and 'power' for the wrong purpose. In Act 1, Iago reveals that he was denied as Othello's lieutenant for someone who had no field experience, but bides his time for the right moment for revenge. That requires a lot of premeditation and forethought. Therefore, I got the impression that he might be one of those evil villains in a comic strip, and I thought that he was selfish that he would even think of backstabbing his good friend just because he did not get a spot in the army.

I disagree wit Ryan Finch because he says Iago crazy, because in a way, he intellectual, clever, and thoughtful, but he just uses it for bad things. However, I do agree with how Ryan says that Iago is evil.

  9. My first impression of Iago is that he is a rather manipulative, intelligent person with foul intentions. This is immediately noticeable because of the way he urges Roderigo to talk vulgarly about Desdomona and Othello to Desdomona's father; thus keeping his own hands clean.

I agree with Elizabeth K. because Iago appears to love to make trouble. This is also because starting from the very beginning, he was exploiting Roderigo's hate to cause trouble.

I also agree with Zoe H. because Iago does think a lot for himself and uses Roderigo to direct the trouble for his own enjoyment. I especially agree how he has no regard for other human emotions because he clearly wanted to spoil Othello's own pleasure.

  10. I agree with Pranesh Kamalakanthan where he says that Iago is manipulative and intelligent with foul intentions completely because Iago really was manipulative, and always covered his tracks thoroughly.

  11. I think that Iago is an ambitious, arrogant, deceitful man. He has already failed to become lieutenant, yet he is still trying to so hard to rise to that rank. He shows his arrogance when he says, "I know my price, I am worth no worse a place." He is deceiving Othello, only pretending to be loyal to him so that he may turn around and stab him in the back. "I follow him to serve my turn upon him."

I agree with Pranesh, that Iago is very intelligent. He seems to have this all planned out. He is very good at making it sound like all he wants to do is help Brabantio, ("Because we come to do you service and you think we are ruffians, you’ll have your daughter covered with a Barbary horse,") when in reality he has very different intentions.

I also agree with Elizabeth K. Iago does seem to be a coward. "It seems not meet, nor wholesome to my place, To be producted (as, if I stay, I shall)." He is saying that it would be bad for someone in his position to be caught going behind Othello's back, so he is going to leave poor naive Roderigo behind to take care of things.

  12. I believe Iago is a two-faced character who is only interested in what benefits him. He isn't afraid to betray is own allies like Othello to get what he wants. In addition to this he uses others for his own personal gain, like having Roderigo be the one to tell Desmonda's father about Desmonda and Othello's relationship. By doing this, he gets his way without getting his hands dirty, like some evil puppet-master.

I agree with San Bae because Iago does have an extremely manipulative nature and he covers his tracks well.

In addition to this I agree with Pranesh because not only is Iago an evil character, he is very intelligent when getting others to do is dirty work and his whole plan to get revenge on Othello is very smart.

  13. Amanda B.

I believe that Iago is a cunning clever man since he had Roderigo do all his "dirty work" for him and he was able to walk away and act like he had nothing to do with it. Also he does seem evil because he does want Othello and Desdemona found out by Brabantio

  14. I agree with Arjun when he says that Iago treats the people like his puppets since he gets them to do things for him and then he cant be blamed.

I agree with Zoe when she says that Iago is driven to get what he wants at any cost.

  15. Sorry, I posted in the wrong class.

  16. I believe Iago is manipulative and a very cunning and intelligent person just like Zoe and Pranesh stated. I also think Iago will eventually get caught later on in the book. Iago can easily manipulate people to do his bidding and this is evident in the beginning of the book, because he makes Roderigo tell Brabantio about his daughter and Othello.

  17. I think Iago is a very intelligent man when it comes to revenge. Instead of trying to take his enemy head on, he uses others to do his dirty work. To do that you have to be very patient and sneaky. That is the type of man Iago is.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I believe that Iago is a very cunning man. I believe that he will try to trick or blame Othello for something because he is jealous of not becoming Lieutenant.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree with ryan. It seems that Iago is a very normal person who is just angry about his loss of rank. But when he begins to boss Radrigo and blame Othello, it becomes clear that Iago is a bad person

  20. I agree with Emily Cox and Pranesh on the fact that Iago's main interest is to take down Othello and his accomplices, and also that he is very bitter about losing the coveted spot of assistant lieutenant to a mathematician. He obviously has a talent for blatantly using people without them suspecting a thing, and he uses this in such a manner that it seems it is everyone's fault but his when an issue arises. He uses this power to the extent that there is no going back, whats done is done. From the beginning you can see Iago turning the characters against each other with subdued comments and his persuasive and powerful demeanor

  21. I agree with San H. Bae. He made a very good point saying how Iago seems like a regular character at first, but as you start reading on throughout the act, he reveals himself as a very intelligent man.

I disagree with Maddy Scarlett when she says Iago is an insecure person. As i said before, I think Iago is covering up his personality so his plan can follow through.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with David. Iago is a man who will do what it takes to get revenge on Othello. I think the guy just has anger problems and needs to just chill out. But it seems like he may even kill someone, just because he didn't get his rank.

  23. at first iago seems jealous and mad at his friend, but later on you learn that he is kinda mean becaose hes trying to ruin his friends life by making plans to ruin his life.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My immediate reaction of Iago, was that he had a strong personality. Iago knows what he wants and will do anything to get it. You learn from the beginning that Iago has already tricked Rodrigo and spent all his money, so you know that Iago was once a good friend to Rodrigo. He is willing to take advantage of anyone to get his favorable outcome Iago’s personality can be described as evil and cunning.

  25. I agree with Amari in that Iago is a very intellegant man. Iago knows how to have a believable case to trick people into doing his “dirty work”. All of Iago’s plans seem to be well thought out and carefully executed.

I agree with Arjun in that Iago is two-faced. At the beginning of the book it is inferred that Rodrigo and Iago were once good friends. As Rodrigo (and the reader) soon find out, Iago is just using his as a puppet.

  26. Anuj T-

I think that Iago is a very smart, tricky man. He pretends to be good and gets people on his side. He slowly feeds bad information into Roderigo's head. He is similar to a con man or a manipulator in his methods of getting Roderigo to support him.

I agree with Braxton when he says "I believe that Iago is a very cunning man. I believe that he will try to trick or blame Othello for something because he is jealous of not becoming Lieutenant."
Jealousy does seem to be the main point that drives Iagos "evilness"

I also agree with Maeghan when she says that Iago is not what he seems to be. He shows himself differently to the world than what he really is inside. His dark intentions lay buried deep down inside, while what shows on the outside is almost the opposite.

  27. I think Iago was a very intelligent man. I think he was very manipulative and knew exactly what to say to get his way. I also beleive Iago was very good at playing both sides.

I agree with Arjun in that Iago is two-faced. I think he does whatever he can to seek revenge on someone if he doesn't get revenge no matter who he hurts.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with david because he seems very annoyed with Othello, causing his evilness. I also disagree with Maddy Scarlett because it doesn't show that he is an insecure person. He wants to get Roberto to do it for him to show his manipulative side.

Iago seems like a bad tempered mand who is jealous of someone lesser than him getting what is rightfully his. He wants revenge on his good friend Othello for giving the "arithmetician" his job. Iago is also a decieving man. He has used his way with words to get Roderigo to het him get his revenge on Othello.
I agree with krayalo about Iago being a mean man, but I think he is more than just mean. He seems like the image of evil only after seeing him in one scene.
I also agree with Amari. Iago is truly an evil genius for he is so sly and intelligent, but I think Othello might have subconciosly seen the true Iago and that may be part of the reason he didn't choose Iago for the job.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think Iago is a very cunning man and conceded. He is very determined to getting the position of being a lieutenant. He is a very determined man. He had even said that he would do what he had to do, to prove his loyalty to the Moor, even if it was just an act.

I agree with Rasheca because he seems to want this revenge very badly, and he is so willing to get rid of anyone or anything that gets in his way.

I also agree with Amari because he isn't doing this by himself, he's manipulating others to help him reach his goal.

  31. Dan Izatt

I agree with Ryan Finch. I think Iago is really crazy because he is jealous of someone lesser then him getting something that belongs to him. He starts lying to get him in trouble aswell.

I agree with Arjun that Iago is also two faced. He will tell lies to anyone just to get the spot and it dosent matter who's life he messes up in the progress

  32. i agree with amri and zoe becausethe both tell us more about iago and how smart he is. they also provide info on his apptudu

  33. Rachel E.
I agree with Maeghan and Arjun because in the text Iago is the instigator who likes to start drama and get people to turn against each other. He's two faced and not a very friendly person. You wouldn't want him as a friend because he'd go telling everyone your secrets and all that.

  35. Tucker Payne-

After I read the first scene of this book. I realized that Iago is just like another one of Shakespeare's characters; Puck. He sets up drama and then sneakily disappears, detatching himself from the entire issue. It is an extremely clever plan.

My first impression of Iago would be that he is a puppet-master or director. Like Rasheca said, he has the inteligence to trick others around him to cause trouble for his own good. He does absolutely zero of the dirty work and then slips away to cause more trouble. In the text he hurriedly whispered to Roderigo that he was going to slip away and where to find the lover's next. A classic mastermind's action.

Like Rachel said(although she was not supposed to)Iago is a two faced person and doesn't like many people. He is even willing to throw Roderigo into Brabantio's wrath in order to help his personal needs. Hes a decevious and untrustworthy man.

His flaws are going to cause many troubles for hima dn others in the future

  36. In my opinion i think that Iago , is a very jealous person. My first interpretation of Iago was a person that has a good friend, but instead of helping there friend. He uses them to the best of his ability. He has made friends in the past like Rodrigo, but betrayed him to the best of his ability.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i agree with Arjun, and Meaghan, when they said he was two-faced, and that he did what he had to do when it came down to getting what he wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  38. My immediate impression of Iago's character is that he is very judgemental. And based on his first few lines in the play, he is also very determined to get what he wants or thinks he deserves.
I agree with Tucker, in that Iago causes a bit of chaos in his actions because he tries to upset Brabantio in the first scene.
I agree with Amari, saying that he is very clever with his plans for revenge. Iago shows this when he describes how he will let the mathematician take the place but how he will soon take the job from him.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My immediate immpression of Iago is that he is very cunning and smart. He does not want to work under Othello, so Iago pretends to be his friend, but really he is otello's enemy and is planning scandals against him. Iago shows this when he says "in following him, I follow but myself" and, "I am not what I am". Also, he goes to the girl's father, and tells Barbentio about what Othello has done, just to get him in trouble.

I agree with Arjun, saying that Iago is a two faced man. Iago pretends to help Othello, when he is really his enemy.

I agree with Amari, when he says that Iago is really intelligent, and he is patiaent and sneaky. Iago has a lot of stuff planned out to get even with Othello, and he executes his plans wisely.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Holly Smith~ I agree with Prenesh and Caroline. Iago is a very vengeful manipulative and clever man. Iago is very upset with Othello for giveing the position of lieutenant to someone who seems quite unqualified. Iago manipulates Barbentio and tells him that Othello is running of and being with barbentios daughter...

Iago is a very smart and creative person. Iago just doesn't use his wits on the right people and things when he could use his revenge technique correctly.
