“The Possibility of Evil” by
Shirley Jackson
Sometimes people are not what they seem. The short story, “The Possibility of Evil”
demonstrates that idea to the fullest because occasionally one’s appearance is
deceiving and is not at all representative of who they are. As a class, we
agreed that Miss Strangeworth fits this profile very well. Your mission is to use the short story “The
Possibility of Evil” to demonstrate the “two-sided” character she depicts
throughout the story. You will create a 3-D “two-faced” mask. One side of the mask should demonstrate what
Miss Strangeworth is like on the outside, and the other side of the mask should
show what she is like on the inside.
Make sure your mask represents her
physical traits, inner and outer emotions, thoughts, role in society, and the
perception of her by others around her.
You must also write a one page summary that explains the mask in
detail.
